Roger Federer will go head-to-head against archrival Novak Djokovic in a group stage match of the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 on Friday. Federer and Djokovic have faced each other 48 times so far with the latter sealing 26 wins. Let us take a look back at the top three matches between the duo.

1 - 2009 US Open semi-final

This match between Djokovic and Federer went on for almost two hours as they presented a pulsating tennis show for fans. Federer was in the midst of a 39-match win streak when he was playing against Djokovic at Flushing Meadows. The first set of the match culminated in a tie-break. It ended with a 7-6 (3) win for the Swiss international as he came with some powerful forehand shots. Meanwhile, in the final two sets, Federer’s late breaks in each set guided him to 7-5 win in both the second and third sets respectively. However, Federer lost the final to Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro.

2 - 2014 Wimbledon final

Djokovic won his second Wimbledon title as he had an exciting 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 win over the Swiss legend Roger Federer. Wimbledon is regarded as the most prestigious event in the tennis world and players thrive hard when they are up to grab a title at the All England Tennis Club. The 2014 Wimbledon final lasted for nearly four hours as the match was another five-set classic. Federer won the first set while Djokovic responded by making it level in the second set.

Meanwhile, in the third set, Djokovic played powerful forehand shots and returned sublimely, which gave him a win in that set. In the fourth set, Federer came roaring back with his rifled backhands as he took the match to a decisive fifth set. Djokovic was awarded his fifth set win as the Swiss legend blinked first with a double fault and a few netted backhands.

3 - 2010 US Open semi-final

Getting into this match, all the statistics were on Federer’s side as before this duel at the US Open, the Swiss had a 10-5 head-to-head record against Djokovic. Federer aggressively attacked the net to win the first set. Djokovic won the second set with his rocketing groundstrokes. In the third set, Federer expertly held on to all his service games, throwing the sink at Djokovic to clinch the set. But Djokovic seemed to be in no mood to lose the match as the Serbian won the fourth set with his backhand shots. Meanwhile, in the fifth and the last set, Djokovic came up with a few best forehand shots of his life as he had a colossal 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 to cruise towards the final.
