Sloane Stephens crashes out of Adelaide after straight set defeat to Arina Rodionova

2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens lost 6-2, 6-2 to Australian qualifier Arina Rodionova on Tuesday at the Adelaide International.

No. 201-ranked Rodionova, a 30-year-old who endured two three-set wins in qualifying just to reach the main draw, was in control from the first game when Stephens lost her serve.

Despite suffering four double faults in the match, the Aussie didn't lose a single serve and took the match in straight sets in one hour and 12 minutes on home soil.

Rodionova will face eighth seed Marketa Vondrousova in the next round of the tournament.
