Sofia Kenin wins third WTA singles title of the year at Guangzhou Open

American Sofia Kenin won her third title of the season at the Guangzhou International Women's Open on Saturday against Australian Samantha Stosur. No. 3 seed Kenin defeated US Open champion Stosur with 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 in the finals of the Guangzhou International 2019. Kenin lost the first set from a breakup but managed to turn the game around by winning seven straight games. The Guangzhou International Women's Open is a tennis tournament held in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China.

About the finalists

The 20-year-old, Sofia Kenin currently ranks a career-high with World No. 20 in Singles ranking. She won her first singles titles of 2019 on the courts of Hobart, Australia in January. Following her second title in Mallorca in June. She had also entered the finals at Acapulco in March but lost the match to Chinese Wang Yafan.

Samantha Stosur, the 2011 US Open champion played her first WTA singles finals since claiming the crown in Strasbourg in May of 2017. The Former World No.4 Stosur was seeking the 10th WTA singles title of her career, and her first hardcourt title since triumphing in Osaka in 2014.

The top-seeded and last year's US Open champion, Naomi Osaka beat Elise Mertens 6-4, 6-1 to reach the final at the Toray Pan Pacific tournament. She will play Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova next. Whereas, at the Korea Open in Seoul, Yafan Wang beat Karolina Muchova 7-6 (5), 6-4 and will face fourth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland in the final.
