US Open 2019: Murray And Mattek-Sands Defend The Mixed Doubles Title

Reigning champions Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands defended their mixed doubles crown at US Open on Saturday. They won against opponents Chan Hao-Ching from Taiwan and New Zealand's Michael Venus. The event took place at  Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Murray and Mattek-Sands completed a successful title defence, with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

US Open championship 

Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands are the British-American pair that rushed through the last five games of the opening set. Giving the duo an early push, Murray knocked off a backhand volley winner. The second set started with four successive breaks. However, both Murray and Mattek-Sands kept their cool and dominated their way through the last three games of the match. This happened to be the third consecutive mixed doubles win for Jamie Murray. This win established him as a Brit force to be reckoned with as he becomes the first man to win three successive US Open mixed doubles title. Bethanie Mattek-Sands who suffered a knee injury at Wimbledon two years ago took to Instagram to celebrate her win.

The incredible duo Murray and Mattek-Sands were incredibly emotional post the US Open win. Murray led the crowd into singing 'happy birthday' for his mother who was seated in the support box. Mattek-Sands, teary-eyed graced her win. She cried again, elated when questioned about her win post the knee injury. Murray had earlier won this title with Martina Hingis back in 2017.

Meanwhile, Nadal at US Open

Nadal, who is on a 10-match winning streak is all set for US Open 2019. He is all geared up to face the Russian player Daniil Medvedev. Nadal is currently pursuing his fourth US Open title. Medvedev, on the other hand, is the first Russian man to compete in the Grand Slam since Marat Safin.
