US Open: Netizens congratulate Rafael Nadal for his 19th Grand Slam

Netizens poured congratulatory wishes as Rafael Nadal won a record 4th US Open title and a 19th Grand Slam overall. Nadal defeated world No. 5 Daniil Medvedev.

US Open had a new winner this year as Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal won a record 4th US Open title and a 19th grand slam overall ranking second after Swiss champion, Roger Federer, who has won 20 grand slams overall. Nadal defeated world No. 5 Daniil Medvedev in 5 sets: 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 on September 8. Fans poured congratulatory wishes to celebrate Nadal's victory.

Fans shed tears of joy and happiness

A never-ending marathon

A final that lasted almost 5 hours seemed like a never-ending marathon, Nadal held his nerve and defeated Medvedev. After Federer and Djokovic were defeated earlier on, Nadal was the favorite to win the US Open. His Russian counterpart, Daniil Medvedev was gunning for a maiden grand slam title gave a tough fight to stay in the game for a longer period of time.

After Nadal won the first two sets, the 23-year-old Russian won the next two sets in what was termed as a captivating match. With a tie at 2-2 after the fourth set, Medvedev had a chance to repeat an upset just like the one that happened in the women's final wherein teen sensation Bianca Andreescu defeated Serena Williams to win her maiden grand slam title. However, Nadal played his natural game and finally breezed past the minor upset that he suffered to win his 4th US open title.
