John Cena and Randy Orton are two of the biggest Pro-Wrestling names to pop up in the 2000s. Cena, who has held 16 WWE World Championships, has had a rival in Randy Orton since the start of his WWE career. Orton and Cena have had an on-screen rivalry for over a decade due to which the fans have been treated to some of the best matches they have ever seen. But in a real non-kayfabe universe, are John Cena and Randy Orton friends?

John Cena and Randy Orton: Close friends even before WWE

John Cena and Randy Orton have given the WWE Universe some really intense matches like their "I Quit" match at the 2009 Breaking Point PPV and both superstars have done very well to build up their rivalry on screen. But in real life, Randy Orton and John Cena have been close to each other even during the times when they were not the gigantic WWE superstars they are today. Cena and Orton have held a total of 29 WWE World Championships, combined.

John Cena and Randy Orton both got their start in the Ohio Valley Wrestling promotion where they learned the tricks of the trade and trained along with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Batista. Multiple reports have suggested that the two developed a close bond during their time at the OVW. It only helped that both of them made their WWE debuts at around the same time and rose to World Championship relevance in quick time. Cena has gone on to call Orton, his "best friend from day one" and for good reason. The duo has single-handedly propelled WWE into a new era in the 2000s as both of them were the top stars of that decade.

Even their relevance mirrored each other as they were usually holding the World titles on different brands if they were not fighting for one on the same brand. Both of them have grown into becoming WWE icons and if reports are to be believed, the strength of their bond has never waivered. A quick Google search would give you multiple off-air images of the two having fun together, so yes... it is safe to say that Randy Orton and John Cena are the closest friends when they're not performing in front of cameras.
