Neeraj Chopra has begun his preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics, and he officially returned to competitive action in the Paavo Nurmi Games. After a month-long break, India's World Champion Javelin throw star put up a solid effort against some of the world's leading athletes, and India's Olympic gold medalist did not miss a step in his attempts. Neeraj came up to silver the last time he was in the Paavo Nurmi, which was in 2022. After missing out on the gold on multiple occasions previously, Chopra was finally able to seal the deal with his throw as he roared back into competitive action.

No one could surpass Neeraj Chopra's opening throw of 83.62 metres in the first throws round. Subsequently, he led the field for a significant portion of the competition with his winning effort of 85.97 metres on his third try. The instant the 26-year-old launched the spear into the air, he knew his effort was unique. He celebrated by raising his hands and letting out a characteristic yell that has come to be associated with his strong performances. On his third try, Neeraj won his first gold in the Paavo Nurmi Games.

Neeraj Chopra proved to be well ahead of German prodigy Max Dehning as his best attempt on Tuesday was 79.84m, not even close to the 80m threshold.

Following the Paavo Nurmi Games, Neeraj Chopra will compete in the Paris Diamond League on July 7, 2024.
