While speaking to the media during Gautam Gambhir's first briefing as the head coach, BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar touched upon Shubman Gill's potential as a cricketer, indicating that the management wants a player who will learn under Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav's leadership and that they don't want to be left hanging in case of an injury.

Shubman Gill was exceptionally good for Team India when they faced off against Zimbabwe in the five-match T20I series. It was Gill's maiden captaincy stint for the national side after his skills were on display when he led the IPL's Gujarat Titans in the 2024 season. Under Shubman's captaincy, Team India went 4-1 at Harare, and they had no senior players available as they were rested after taking part in the T20 World Cup. Despite the shocking win by Zimbabwe in the inaugural match, India came back strong and secured the wins to bag the lead and eventually win the series on a high note.

The Sri Lanka tour is almost upon us as the players are officially departing to the Island nation for the white-ball series. Gill will receive the chance to learn under the wings of SKY and Rohit as they compete against the Asian Cricket Giants.
