It has been reported that Harper was struck on the chin while trying to hit a pull shot and the ball struck his throat, causing a severe cut. The Melbourne Stars medical team tried to control the bleeding and an ambulance was immediately called to take him to the hospital. Luckily Harper is fine and stable when he was taken the hospital for treatment.
After the scary incident, the training session was called off and Harper will not be available to play on Saturday with Stars not having any back-up wicketkeeper as well. Australian batter Peter Handscomb, who does not have a BBL contract, might be called in on short notice to replace Harper.
Melbourne Stars released an official statement saying, “Sam Harper was struck in the head whilst batting at training this evening at the MCG and subsequently taken to hospital in a stable condition. We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. The club will provide further updates when they come to hand.”

Harper had earlier also been concussed when he collided with Nathan Ellis during a BBL match and then also had to be taken to the hospital. Harper was hit with a bat in 2017 while wicketkeeping and again had to be hospitalised. Everyone is praying for Harper's quick recovery from the blow.
