Team India. on June 29. 2024 scripted history at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma defeated Aiden Markram's South Africa by 7 runs in the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. It was a long awaited World Cup win for Indian captain Rohit Sharma who led the team in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup, the 2023 WTC Finals and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Former English Captain Questions Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma is now a World Cup winning captain and is only the third one after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni to win an ICC trophy for India. Rohit came pretty close to win an ODI World Cup for India last year, but India terribly crumbled in the finals against Australia. As far as the Mumbai Indians are concerned, they had a horrid IPL 2024 and finished at the bottom of the table. Mumbai won only two out of their 14 league stage games.

Earlier this year, Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya's return to the franchise and also appointed him as the skipper of the side. This decision faced a lot of flak from cricket fans in general. Rohit Sharma as a captain has delivered 5 IPL titles for the 'men in blue and gold' and his removal as the captain of the side was beyond anybody. A decision that was widely criticized by Indian cricket fans. Now English skipper Michael Vaughan has come out and has voiced his opinion on the matter.

In T20 Cricket, you know Rohit for me is right up there with the best. I mean what he is a brilliant captain. I mean how he wasn't the Mumbai Indians captain this year is beyond me. So he is a, he's a superstar.

Rohit Sharma Announces T20I Retirement
Right after India won the T20 World Cup in June, Sharma announced that he had played his last T20I game for India. Rohit holds the record of being the only cricketer to win the ICC men's T20 World Cup both as a player and as a captain. With India's historic win in Barbados, Sharma also completed 50 T20I victories as a skipper.
