It has been a minute since an ODI Tri-Series has been conducted and made waves. Back in the day, it used to be a reason of inexplicable excitement, the subsequent rise of T20 cricket and an equal level of plummet of the ODI format seemingly pushed the structure of the series into extinction. Nevertheless, the Tri-Series has returned and would take place soon.
As per reports, Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa have agreed to play a Tri-nation series ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan during February and March next year. As the series will take place just before CT 2025, it will also be held in Pakistan.
Conventionally seven matches are played during a Tri-series but it could be expected that the competition between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa will have fewer matches as it is only going to be a six-day affair
Team India hasn't played the Tri-Series in the recent past. However, Team India has regularly featured in all the Asia Cups, which could be seen as an extension to a Tri-Series.
Through a video message released on Sunday, Jay Shah thanked Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their excellent show in the final five overs in the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup Final. He then talked about the upcoming assignments and expressed confidence in the appointed captain Rohit Sharma to bring home the WTC maze and Champions Trophy. WTC is an ongoing tournament whose final will be played in 2025 and the Champions Trophy will take place in 2025.
