Legendary West Indian cricketer Brian Lara claims that Indian batter Shubman Gill is the one most likely to break his own world records of 400* and 501*. Lara is the only player in history to score four hundred fifty points in a Test match. He accomplished this against England in 2004, and his 400* score is still the greatest Test score in international cricket history.

What did Brian Lara say about Shubman Gill?

Lara's supremacy also reaches first-class cricket, where in 1994 he scored an unprecedented solo 501* for Warwickshire against Durham in a County Championship match. Lara declared that he thought Gill was the best batsman of this generation in an interview with Anandabazar Patrika. He also predicted that the 24-year-old would smash numerous records in his career. Brian Lara said:

"Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records. He (Gill) can do it (break my records),"

Brian Lara believes that a lot of batting records will be broken in the future due to the rising scoring rates brought about by the growth of many T20 leagues. The legendary West Indian cricket player claims that the fast-paced and dynamic character of Twenty20 cricket has had a big impact on overall scoring patterns and created an atmosphere where records may be broken. Lara's assessment points to a change in the game's terrain, with a focus on thrilling and aggressive batting in T20 formats predicted to help break records all throughout the cricketing world. He added:

“If Gill plays County cricket then he can break my 501*. In Test cricket, he can surely go past 400. Cricket has changed a lot, especially batting. Batters play t20 leagues across the globe. IPL has changed everything. The scoring rate has gone up. So you will keep seeing big scores. Shubman will score big, mark my words,”

Despite being a prolific scorer in white-ball cricket with double centuries and centuries in ODIs and T20Is, Shubman Gill has struggled in the red-ball format. The 24-year-old's average of just 32.20 over 18 Tests indicates that he has struggled in Test cricket.
