Team India is taking on South Africa in the 1st Test at the Supersport Park in Centurion on Tuesday. This is the first time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are returning to the Indian side after the ODI World Cup final loss to Australia. South Africa won the toss and elected to field first against India

IND vs SA: What happened to Ravindra Jadeja?

Rohit Sharma while announcing India's playing XI for the Test match made a surprising omission as Ravindra Jadeja's name wasn't there. India decided to play R Ashwin and Shardul Thakur in the match. Rohit revealed that Jadeja complained of back spasms ahead of the match and was thus deemed unfit. Here is BCCI's official update regarding Jadeja:-

“Mr Ravindra Jadeja complained of upper back spasms on the morning of the match. He was not available for selection for the first SA vs IND Test.”

India vs South Africa: 2 debuts for SA, 1 for IND

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to field against India in the first Test here on Tuesday. The toss for the first Test of the Freedom Series for the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy was delayed due to wet patches on the outfield. The first two days of the game are under rain threat.

India have handed a Test debut to pacer Prasidh Krishna. For the hosts South Africa, middle-order batter David Bedingham and bowling all-rounder Nandre Burger are making their Test debuts. India are aiming for their maiden Test series win in South Africa in 31 years.

Teams: India: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

South Africa: Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma(c), Keegan Petersen, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger.
