'Saved nearly 10 crore': Ricky Ponting reveals Delhi Capitals strategy, talks about Brook signing

The IPL 2024 auction took place on Tuesday in Dubai, and all the teams have picked their star players and will be looking to have a successful IPL 2024 season. The Delhi Capitals signed 11 players in the auction, and one of the biggest highlights for the team was the signing of English star Harry Brook. Delhi Capitals managed to save their funds of over 10 crore and want all glory in March 2024.

Ricky Pointing lauds the signing of Harry Brook
Ricky Ponting, the legendary Australian captain and head coach of the Delhi Capitals, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing of English batsman Harry Brook. Ponting emphasised the comprehensive success of filling important roles during the IPL 2024 auction, which took place on Tuesday, December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
The Delhi Capitals had a successful IPL auction, signing nine players for the upcoming season. The franchise made this strategic move after releasing ten players prior to the retention deadline. The Delhi-based team hopes to improve on their second-from-bottom performance in the points table the previous season.

Ponting emphasised in a post-auction video that they effectively addressed all of the holes they wanted to solve. He went on to say that the squad had a phenomenal 90% success rate in securing their desired players throughout the auction.
DC signed Kumar Kushagra (Rs 7.20 crore), Jhye Richardson (Rs 5 crore), Shai Hope (Rs 75 lakh), Harry Brook (Rs 4 crore), Tristan Stubbs (Rs 50 lakh), Ricky Bhui (Rs 20 lakh), Rasik Dhar (Rs 20 lakh), Sumit Kumar (Rs 1 crore), and Swastik Chikara (Rs 20 lakh) in the 2024 auction. Ponting said:

“We filled all the gaps that we wanted and saved nearly 10 crore, so the owners are really happy about it. We probably got 90 per cent of exactly what we wanted. We've done a great job,”
Ponting continued the video by expressing his sincere delight about working with Brook and describing him as one of the world's most talented international cricket players. During the auction in Dubai, DC paid Rs 4 crore to get Brook's services. Brook will be playing in the Indian Premier League for the second time this season after making 190 runs for SunRisers Hyderabad in his debut campaign. In the previous season, SunRisers Hyderabad paid Rs 13.50 crore to get him. He added:
“I was excited about Harry Brook. I think he is one of the most talented international cricketers in the world at the moment. He was our number 1 priority today and we got him for a whole lot cheaper than we expected to. So, I'm really excited to work with him,”
