Young India cricketer Shubman Gill has been appointed the captain of Gujarat Titans, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise that has dominated the competition since its inception in 2022. The development came after news of Hardik Pandya moving to Mumbai Indians was confirmed earlier in the day.

Shubman Gill issues first statement after becoming captain of Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill has issued his first statement after being appointed the captain of Gujarat Titans. In his statement published on the official website of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill said he is delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of the franchise and thanked the management for entrusting him with the responsibility.

“I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket," Shubman Gill said after the announcement. 

Shubman Gill also took to his official Twitter handle to share the news with his fans and followers. Gill said that he is proud to be named the captain of Gujarat Titans and assured his fans of a memorable season next year.

Shubman Gill started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 before moving to Gujarat Titans in 2022. Gill was bought by KKR just months after he helped India win the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. The 24-year-old has played 91 matches in the IPL and has scored 2790 runs at an average of 37.70 and strike rate of 134.07.
