The Mohali-based franchise has encountered difficulties in the competition on a regular basis. In the seventeenth year of the competition, Shikhar Dhawan became the team's fourteenth captain, adding to their already patchy leadership. Furthermore, virtually every auction has revealed a propensity for rebuilding the squad from the ground up as well as regular changes in the coaching staff. Though the club has made an attempt on paper, their performance has fallen short of expectations.
