R Ashwin Discusses the Possibility of the Potential Link Between Rohit Sharma and RCB for IPL 2025
R Ashwin deliberates whether former Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma could join RCB for IPL 2025 amid speculation about his transfer from MI.
With the IPL 2025 big auction just around the corner, rumours of Mumbai Indians keeping Rohit Sharma grow stronger. Hardik Pandya replaced Sharma's captain in IPL 2024, therefore casting doubt on his future with the squad. As the auction date approaches, fans are looking forward to the choice. Many fans want Rohit Sharma to bring his incredible experience to the RCB, who are still looking for their maiden title.
Is Rohit Sharma linked to RCB? R Ashwin speaks about the possibility ahead of the mega IPL auction
According to seasoned Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin , Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would not be prudent to bid for Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025 auction. To make a competitive offer for the erstwhile Mumbai Indians (MI), he said RCB would have to save at least ₹20 crore.
Leading the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles—a record equalled only by Chennai Super Kings (CSK)— Rohit has been a prominent player for the squad since 2011. But he was replaced as captain before of the IPL 2024 season, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya taking front stage. MI battled under Pandya's direction, coming in last of the standings with only four victories out of 14 games.
Recent rumours have surfaced about RCB maybe aiming for Rohit in the IPL 2025 super auction should he decide to participate. Ashwin had doubts about the Bengaluru team's viability of such a relocation, however. He told a fan his opinions on his YouTube channel during a conversation, saying the concept doesn't appear doable. R Ashwin said:
"Agar Rohit Sharma ke liye aap jaa rahe hai to 20 crore rakhna padega. 20 crore udhar gayab ho gaya. If you wish to sign Rohit Sharma, you must keep 20 crore on hand. Twenty crores have vanished there.)
Leading run scorer all-time for the Mumbai Indians is one and only Rohit Sharma . Having accumulated 5,731 runs across 221 matches, he maintains an average of 29.69 and a strike rate of 131.05, which includes two centuries and 36 half-centuries. Having guided 158 games as captain, he has secured 87 wins and suffered 67 losses—four of which resulted in a draw. MI's 2024 IPL campaign was substandard, however, they will look to bounce back in the upcoming IPL but their focus for now is anticipated to be the mega auction.
