The former number one ODI batter Babar Azam has ceded his spot to rising sensation Shubman Gill, causing a major change in the ODI batting rankings. With his 282 runs in eight innings during the World Cup, Babar has fallen six rating points behind Gill, who currently holds the top slot. With this change, Babar Azam's more than two-year reign as the top-ranked ODI batter in the world comes to an end.

Kohli's resurgence and India's domination in the rankings

Furthermore, the former captain of India, Virat Kohli, has seen an incredible comeback, shooting up to fourth in the most recent ODI batting rankings. After scoring 543 runs in the ongoing ODI World Cup, he moved up three spots in the rankings and closed the gap on South Africa's Quinton de Kock, who was ranked third, by only one rating point. This ascent happened on a day that will never be forgotten for India, as their fast bowler Mohammed Siraj reached the top of the ODI bowler rankings with 10 wickets at the World Cup.
