World Test Championship 2025: Once considered a dying format, Test cricket has now found back its relevance and all the credit for it goes to the concept of World Test Championship (WTC) that runs through two years and the top two teams lock horns for the ultimate cricketing glory. In the previous two cycles, India have been extremely dominant and have played two consecutive finals. Though they ended up losing both, one to New Zealand in 2021 and the other one to Australia in 2023, they are very much in contention to play the next final too.

Nathan Lyon Supports Rohit Sharma , Wants ICC To Change The Format of WTC Final

After India lost to Australia in the World Test Championship Final last year, he suggested that a three-match WTC final series might be the way out. Sharma backed his claims by saying that a need wants some kind of momentum going into a final of such a great magnitude. Back in 2023, Sharma's comments attracted a lot of reactions, but he has now found support in Nathan Lyon, Australian stalwart who has over 500 wickets.

Recently, Nathan Lyon proposed the idea of having a three-match series for the World Test Championship finals. While speaking to the ICC Lyon said that any team can potentially lose a Test match in one session and hence a three-match series might be the ideal way to go about things.

'One thing I would like to see, I'd like to see the World Test Championship Final potentially in a three-match series. That may become a little bit better because you potentially can lose a Test match in one session where [in a three-match series] it may allow teams to bounce back and show their dominance and win 3-0', said Lyon.
