Riyan Parag smashes second fastest century of Ranji Trophy history, joins elite list of players

Assam all-rounder Riyan Parag on Monday entered the record books as he smashed the second fastest century of Ranji Trophy history. The 22-year-old registered a 56-ball ton while playing against Chhattisgarh in the Elite Group B match in Raipur. Despite Parag's valiant effort in the third innings of the match, Chhattisgarh won by 10 wickets.

Riyan Parag breaks Ranji Trophy record

Riyan Parag scored 155 runs in just 87 balls including 12 sixes and 11 fours to help Assam post 254 runs in the third innings. Chhattisgarh had imposed a follow-on on Assam after the side was bowled out for just 159 runs in their first innings. Chhattisgarh had scored 327 runs in the opening innings of the match. 

Thanks to Parag's century, Assam were able to save their face by avoiding an innings defeat. Assam posted a target of 87 runs for Chhattisgarh, which the home side chased down in 20 overs without the fall of a single wicket. However, Parag broke a few records with his quickfire century. He became the second fastest centurion of Ranji Trophy.
