IND vs SL 2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma's Team India is locking horns with Sri Lanka in a three match away ODI series. The 'men in blue' defeated the hosts 3-0 in a recently concluded T20I series and will look to inflict another series defeat in the fifty overs format. Rohit Sharma who recently retired from the T20Is is leading India in the ODIs and he along will Head Coach Gautam Gambhir will look to execute their plans for the Champions Trophy.

Rohit Sharma Breaks MS Dhoni's Record

Rohit Sharma for the past 10 months has revamped his playing style completely. For the majority of his career, Sharma always believed in taking some time and then attacking the opposition when he was all set. But something changed during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Skipper Rohit Sharma switched to a new style of attacking gameplay and left the oppositions clueless. This change in Rohit's approach not only benefitted him, but also the Indian team.

Skipper Rohit Sharma played with the same intent even in the T20 World Cup and it reaped sweet rewards for him. In the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Rohit scored a gritty 58 runs but that wasn't enough as the match ended in a draw. Come the second ODI, Rohit Sharma was on the cusp of breaking MS Dhoni's massive record and he did it in style. With 64 runs from 44 balls, Rohit Sharma has now edged past MS Dhoni and has become the fifth highest run scorer for India.

Rohit Sharma became only the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni to win an ICC trophy. After India's historic win on June 29, 2024, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20Is. But Sharma still continues to be India's skipper in the ODI and the Test format. Sharma in many ways is in the final phase of his career and might have his eyes set on the 2027 ODI World Cup. Before the start of his stint as India Head Coach, Gambhir said that he wanted Rohit to accomplish his dream of winning an ODI World Cup.
