Veteran India batter and member of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning team returns to domestic cricket
Ahead of the start of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a veteran India batsman has received a call up to captain the domestic side. The player will replace Sundar.

Dinesh Karthik called up to captain Tamil Nadu
Dinesh Karthik has been called to lead Tamil Nadu's state team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023. Karthik comes in as a replacement for Washington Sundar, who captained Tamil Nadu in the 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Before the announcement, UR Radhakrishnan, the men’s senior selection committee chairman of the state, said that Sundar was likely to get a call-up for India's T20I series against Australia after the ongoing 2023 World Cup.

Karthik did not participate in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Karthik's duties as a broadcast pundit prevented him from competing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His stellar List A record stands at 7,358 runs at an average of 39.77 from 252 games.

In the absence of both Karthik and Sundar, it was Baba Indrajith, who took the onus of the team in the previous edition, where despite topping the table, Tamil Nadu was defeated in the quarterfinals.
