Who is Venugopal Rao? Delhi Capitals ' New Team Director
Venugopal Rao is a former India player, who was active at the international scene for a brief period. He played 16 ODIs for India before getting eliminated from the scheme of things. In the IPL , he was scouted by Deccan Chargers in 2008 and was a part of the franchise's winning campaign in 2009. He had insignificant stints with Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals ) and Sunrisers Hyderabad afterwards.
After finishing the phase as a player, Venugopal Rao remained associated with cricket and was seemingly busy with off-field work. Howbeit, he has returned to the mainstream as the director of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals .
What's ironical about Venugopal Rao's career is that he has replaced Sourav Ganguly not once but twice. Long ago when Ganguly was dropped from the Indian side, during the Greg Chappell era, the young Venugopal Rao was called up to the side to replace him. Now almost two decades later, Venugopal has once again filled the space left by Dada.
Sourav Ganguly carried out the duties as the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals till IPL 2024 and now he has been entrusted with the same position but with JSW Sports, the entity that partially owns Delhi Capitals and other Delhi franchises in various leagues.
