Pakistan needed a miracle in the second innings after they set a target of 316 runs for Bangladesh on Friday at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Mathematically, to qualify, Pakistan had to bowl Bangladesh out for just seven runs. Bangladesh made eight runs in 2 overs and crushed the Men in Green’s hopes to enter the semis.

The match is ongoing and Pakistan will look for a consolation win against Bangladesh to end their World Cup campaign.

With Pakistan getting knocked out of the tournament, the four teams to qualify for the next stage of the tournament are, defending champions Australia, India, hosts England and New Zealand. The fixture will depend upon the rankings of the four teams after the end of group stage matches on 6 July.

Pakistan had a slow start after winning just one match against England in the first half of the tournament, but they managed a respectable comeback.

Here's how netizens reacted to Pakistan being knocked out of the tournament:

This fan just put an end to the similarities in the World Cup campaigns of Pakistan in 2019 and 1992.

Some fans were just harsh.

Some Pakistani fans in the spirit of cricket congratulated New Zealand on qualifying to the semi-finals.

This fan resorted to introspection.

And one for good luck.

Pakistan's victory today would mean they will equalize New Zeland 11 points but they are knocked out on account of their run rate difference.

Pakistan had a disappointing start to the tournament, they lost 3 games against the flamboyant West Indies, the defending champions England and, arch-rivals India. They gave England a shocker by beating them in a high-intensity game that went on till the last ball. This World Cup had more washed games than any other ICC tournament in cricketing history. Falling prey to that, Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka was washed off resulting in sharing of points.  Having just 3 points in 5 games triggered a lot of criticism from former Pakistani cricketers and fans. Fans even got abusive and were ruthless to the team, questioning their intent and fitness. But the team always believed that they can turn things around. Entertaining their belief, Pakistan beat South Africa, defeated New Zealand to break their winning streak and snatched a win from Afghanistan. After eight gamed Pakistan is fifth on the World Cup point’s table with 9 points.
