World Cup | Upbeat pool-side Shikhar Dhawan says his recovery's going great, netizens tell him how much they miss him

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who was ruled out of the World Cup after a thumb injury, provided an injury update as he shared a picture of himself on social media alongside a swimming pool. During a fixture against Australia on June 9, he was hit by a Pat Cummins bouncer. However, Dhawan went onto play a match-winning knock of 117 off 109 balls which helped India secure a 36-run win.

However, Dhawan went onto play a match-winning knock of 117 off 109 balls which helped India secure a 36-run win.

The left-handed opener suffered an injury between his thumb and the index finger, following which Rishab Pant was called in as the replacement. Dhawan took to Twitter to post an update about his injury. Read the tweet here:

The 33-year-old batsman had also posted a message for the Men in Blue after they were knocked out of the World Cup, as New Zealand beat India at the Old Trafford, Manchester by 18 runs on July 9. Dhawan congratulated the Kiwis on reaching the finals and applauded the spirit of the Men in Blue.

The fiery left-hand opener has played 130 One Day International matches (ODI) scoring 5480 runs, being the most consistent opener for India along with fellow opener Rohit Sharma, with whom he shares a dynamic partnership. 

Dhawan had posted an emotional message via a video for Indian fans after he was ruled out of the tournament. "I'm sure boys (are) doing a great job at the moment and going to do really great and win the World Cup. Keep praying for us and keep supporting us. Your support and prayers are very very important and very dear to us. Thank you all again for all your support and love. Love you all, take care," he said.
