In the exciting 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup final, India defeated South Africa with a tenacious showing on June 29, 2024. South Africa's spirits appeared to be raised by India captain Rohit Sharma's early exit, as the team set a target of 177. But Virat Kohli, ever the determined man, rose to the occasion, hitting a magnificent 76 off 59 balls. In reply, Heinrich Klaasen played a brave innings, but South Africa lost by 7 runs. India's victory was secured by Player of the Match Kohli's outstanding batting and Bumrah's potent bowling, completing a protracted wait for the esteemed championship.
As Team India is ready to head back home following their successful campaign, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) posted a unique video with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. By seven runs in the last on Saturday, June 29, at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, the Men in Blue defeated South Africa.
Lead by Rohit Sharma, the team was left bound in Barbados following their victory because of airport closures brought on by Hurricane Beryl. After three days, the team is scheduled to head home on a chartered aeroplane; likely to land in Delhi early on Thursday, July 4. The BCCI uploaded a video of the World Cup Trophy under the caption "It's coming home" before their trip.
Team India is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi upon return.
India entered the ranks of West Indies (2012, 2016) and England (2010, 2022) as the third side to win the esteemed championship twice after emerging triumphant in the T20 World Cup 2024. India first gained the first championship in 2007 in South Africa under MS Dhoni's captaincy, therefore bridging a 17-year gap between their second championship.
With their last major victory the Champions Trophy 2013 in England, this achievement ended India's 11-year ICC Trophy hiatus. The whole country is waiting impatiently for the team to return to carry on the national festivities started by their most recent triumph.
