South Africa outplayed England at Wankhede
The South African cricket team put up a tremendous batting display in the ENG vs SA ODI World Cup 2023 match and put up a first-innings total of 399/7. Heinrich Klaasen was the architect of South Africa's brilliant batting performance and slammed a century in just 61 balls. Marco Jansen also contributed with the bat by coming down the order and hitting 75 runs off 45 balls. Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen also played innings of 85 and 60 runs respectively. No English bowler was able to leave much and were hit to all parts of the Wankhede Stadium by the Proteas batsmen.
Chasing 400 runs was never going to be easy for the ODI World Cup defending champions. The English cricket team lost its first eight wickets for just 100 runs as Gerald Coetzee broke the backbone of England's batting lineup with 3 wickets. Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi chipped in with 2 wickets each and helped South Africa win the match.

The 229-run loss against South Africa would hurt England both mentally and statistically in the ODI World Cup 2023. The huge margin of defeat will hamper England's Net Run Rate whereas they will now have to regroup as a team if they want to keep chances alive to defend the title.
