'Don't leave anyone hanging': Stokes gives EPIC response on reports of returning home mid-World Cup

Following the impressive performance against Netherlands in match 40 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Ben Stokes paid heed on the rumors flowing about him.

England finally found a way out of the predicament they were beleaguered in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The defending champions had an embarrassing campaign, with the string of losses enlarging to as many as 6 losses. Nothing went right for the team in World Cup 2023, however, with the consolation win over Netherlands in Pune, the team have brightened the chances of qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

CWC 2023: England's losing spree ends with win over Netherlands

Over the last half a decade, England have dominated the limited overs scene and before the start of the ODI mayhem,  they were seen as the team to beat in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, as the tournament began to take shape, it became clear that Jos Buttler's side is out of sorts and won't be contending for the title this time. Their performance shocked the cricket world, as England's batting department had the same firepower with which they conquered the trophy last time. Moreover, when one of England's biggest match-winners, Ben Stokes, announced his ODI return, the team looked destined to do well. But, but, but, he too could not stop the disaster that was about to strike.

Stokes emerged to the fore in the match against Australia but was found wanting of the support from the other end, and as a result, England lost the must-win match and consequently crashed out of the race for the semis. Following the loss, Stokes was being advised by many former players to leave the World Cup campaign and head home, but the all-rounder decided to stay and play a century knock to register a win for England. Stokes scored a scintillating innings of 108 of just 84 balls. Courtesy of his performance England accumulated a massive score of 339, batting first, and in turn, got the victory by 160 runs.

Ben Stokes pays heed to the rumors of him leaving the World Cup 2023

After the culmination of the match, Stokes addressed the rumors about him leaving the World Cup early, and said "No, I don't leave anyone hanging,"

Further, he expressed relief about England's win and said the team's win is more important than an individual milestone.

"Happy to get back to winning more than getting a ton. It's been a tough World Cup," Stokes said.
