They were both from North India, had raw potential from an early age, and came out of the India U-19 system. Kohli established himself quickly, and by the 2011 ODI World Cup, he was indispensable. Match-winner Yuvraj was instrumental in helping India win the trophy after a 28-year drought, winning Player of the Tournament.

Yuvraj Singh on his equation with Virat Kohli

Their paths in cricket separated after 2011. Yuvraj fought cancer during the competition, which resulted in a protracted absence. As he progressed through the ranks, Kohli's reputation as a white-ball match hero was cemented.

Following his difficulties and comebacks, Yuvraj was eventually left out in 2017. Between 2014 and 2015, Kohli led the Test team as captain, and in 2017, he assumed responsibility for the white-ball team.

In the middle of these adjustments, Yuvraj and Kohli grew close, sharing the IPL dressing room and competing for India in several formats. Even though they don't communicate much, when they do get back together, their bond endures beyond their cricketing adventures. Their final public meeting took place in Mohali, India, during the 2022 India vs Australia T20I, and their exchange was similar to that of lifelong friends.

Yuvraj Singh disclosed that Virat Kohli's hectic schedule had caused their relationship to deteriorate. Yuvraj said in a TRS Podcast that he didn't want to bother Kohli, noting that there had been a big change from the younger "Cheeku" to the modern cricket legend, Virat Kohli. Replying to the question that whether he is in touch with Kohli or not, the retired cricketer said:

“Not really,”

“I don't disturb him as he is busy. Young Virat Kohli's name was Cheeku. Today's Cheeku is Virat Kohli, there's a big difference,”
