Sri Lanka have had a disastrous run in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, losing 6 of the 8 matches the team has played. The string of losses has ended the Lankan Tigers' contention for the semis. And if anything that defines their campaign it is the loss against India.

Sri Lankan makes serious allegations regarding ICC ODI World Cup 2023
While the tournament is being played under the monitoring of the ICC, there are some sceptics, who feel everything is not at the right place this World Cup. Following Sri Lanka's debacle, Sri Lankan MP Wimal Weerawansa has alleged that ICC is ruled by India and demanded an investigation on the World Cup.
Weerawansa claims that Mahela Jayawardena influenced Kusal Mendis in opting to bowl first against India, a decision that shocked the Indian captain as well. Lankan MP also went on to say that India have a hand in choosing the Sri Lankan selection committee as well.

“That day after winning the toss against India, It’s Mahela Jayawardena who told the Sri Lankan captain to bowl first, Even the Indian Captain was shocked as to why he opted to bowl first, even though they were eager to bat first on that pitch, ICC is ruled by India, and Even Sri Lankan selection committee is appointed by India, there were no opening ceremonies in the tournament, but they held a ceremony in IND vs PAK match. There is something big going on in Cricket, We have to find out why Mahela advised Kusal Mendis to go for bowl first option.” Here is the video.

Sri Lanka's disastrous run in ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Considering how they played in the last couple of years, Sri Lanka promised to showcase better play in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, in the crunch situations, against the big teams, the team come out substantially short. Their only wins came against the Netherlands and England. Their campaign will end on November 9, 2023, when they will take on New Zealand. While SL could not qualify, they can present a farewell gift to Pakistan by defeating the Blackcaps.
