Jasprit Bumrah achieved a milestone by claiming his 15th wicket in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 when he dismissed Pathum Nissanka on the very first delivery of Sri Lanka's innings, who were chasing a formidable target of 358. Nissanka was struck on the pad right in front of the stumps, prompting the umpire to raise his finger. Despite the batter's decision to opt for the Decision Review System (DRS), the call stood, and he had to depart without scoring, a golden duck that put the batting team in an early predicament.

Jasprit Bumrah strikes on the first ball for India
In their innings, India posted a competitive total of 357/8 in their allotted 50 overs, with Shubman Gill contributing 92 runs, Virat Kohli adding 88, and Shreyas Iyer making 82, leading the charge with the bat. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed to the total with 35 off 24 balls. Dilshan Madushanka picked up a five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka started their batting innings very poorly losing four wickets for just three runs on the board. Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthrough on the very first delivery of the innings, removing Nissanka for a duck. Mohammed Siraj came into the attack and picked two wickets in the same over. He took the wicket of Angelo Matthews in his next over, putting India right on top of the game.

If India can manage to win their game against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium on Thursday, they will become the first team to qualify for the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023. India are the only side that is undefeated in the tournament thus far. India have 12 points from six matches with victories in all the games.
