Batting first on a spin-friendly Chepauk surface, the Pakistan cricket team put up score of 282/7. Skipper Babar Azam scored 72 runs off 92 balls to hit his first half-century of the tournament. However, Babar was not able to convert the start and was dismissed by young Afghani spinner Noor Ahmad. Opener Abdullah Shafique also contributed with 58 runs whereas Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed played innings of 40 runs respectively. No other batsman was able to stay at the crease and was dismissed cheaply by the Afghani bowlers. Noor Ahmad picked up a three-wicket haul whereas Naveen-ul-Haw also contributed with his two wicket haul. Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Omarzai also picked up 1 wicket each.
Chasing the target, Afghanistan went off to a flyer and openers added 130 runs for the first wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz on one ended smashed 65 runs off 53 balls which included nine fours and one sixes whereas Ibrahim Zadran played a steady knock of 87 runs. After the departure of the openers, Rahmat Shah (77*) and Hasmatullah Shahidi (48*) did the rest and guided the team to an eight-win over Pakistan at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
