After a disappointing loss against India by 243 runs, South Africa went back to winning ways in the 2023 ODI World Cup and defeated Afghanistan by five wickets in their final round-robin match. The Proteas have already qualified for the tournament semi-finals and are expected to face Australia.

South Africa finish the CWC 2023 round-robin stage with a win 

Batting first in the AFG vs SA CWC 2023 match, the Afghanistan cricket team faced a batting collapse after a decent start and lost three consecutive wickets in the space of five runs. Afghani openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz added 41 runs for the first wicket but were dismissed for 15 and 25 runs respectively. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi also failed to contribute and was dismissed for just two runs, After the fall of three quick wickets, Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmat Shah added 49 runs for the fourth wicket. After Rahmat departed for 25 runs, the Afghani team lost two quick wickets in the form of Ikram Khil and Mohammad Nabi. Omarzai first put up a 44-run stand with Rashid Khan and then added 44 runs with Noor Ahmad. At last, the wickets continued to tumble for Afghanistan and they were wrapped up for 244 runs. Omarzai missed out on a century and was unbeaten on 97 runs with a total of seven fours and three sixes.

Chasing the target, South Africa started off well and openers gave them a steady start. Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma added 64 runs for the first wicket. However, the Proteas faced a batting collapse and from 64/1 they slumped down to 182/5. However, Rassie van der Dussen ensured that the South African team reach over the line safetely by playing an unbeaten innings of 76 runs.
