Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy to Australia captain Pat Cummins at a stadium named after him at Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Australia beat India by 6 wickets to lift their sixth ODI World Cup title on Sunday. Travis Head played a marvelous knock to take Australia home as they chased down 240 runs in 43 overs.
PM Modi, who was attending the match in Gujarat, was invited to the ground by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to hand the World Cup trophy to the winning captain. PM Modi was seen congratulating the Australian captain on their win over India in the summit clash of the ODI World Cup. PM Modi handed the trophy to Pat Cummins and left the stage for Australians to celebrate.
Earlier, PM Modi took to his official social media handle to congratulate the Australian team on winning the ODI World Cup 2023.
Batting first, India posted 240 runs in 50 overs with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scoring a half-century each. Rohit Sharma contributed at the top with a quickfire 47 off 31 balls. However, the target turned out to be on the lower side as Australia won comfortably with 42 balls to spare. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne forged a crucial partnership for the third wicket with the former winning the player of the match award.
