Ravindra Jadeja surpasses Yuvraj Singh and Anil Kumble to hit monumental record in ODI World Cup

In match number 45 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Ravindra Jadeja snared away with two wickets and thereby took the leading position in one category.

India were in their normal destructive form when they faced the Netherlands in their last 2023 World Cup league stage match on Sunday in Bengaluru. The hosts maintained their unblemished record in this competition with a dominant 160-run victory ahead of their semi-final match against New Zealand. Both teams met in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals, with Kane Williamson and company coming out on top before falling to England in the final.

Ravindra Jadeja becomes India's leading wizard in ODI World Cup

The India vs Netherlands match turned out to be memorable for Ravindra Jadeja, who scripted history after dismissing two Dutch batsmen. The all-rounder surpassed legends Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh to become the Indian spinner with the most World Cup wickets in a single tournament. Jadeja now has 16 for the season, one more than Kumble (1996) and Yuvraj (2011). Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is close behind with 14 dismissals.

India vs Netherlands: Match Summary

The Dutch were bowled out for 250 in 47.5 overs while chasing 411. Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja all picked up two wickets respectively. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma both took a wicket apiece. Teja Nidamanuru hit a half-century for the visitors.

Prior to that, India opted to bat first after winning the toss. With a century each from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, India got to a massive total of 410/4 in fifty overs. Rahul struck 102 off 64 deliveries, while Iyer smashed 128* off 94 balls. Before that, half-centuries were scored by Rohit Sharma (61), Shubman Gill (51), and Virat Kohli (51).
