Gill dismisses speculation surrounding Nasum's 'wide' to Kohli

Shubman Gill, India's opening batter, dismissed the talks around Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed's attempted wide ball, which could have cost Virat Kohli his 48th ODI century. Gill voiced skepticism about the incident. The incident happened during India's successful chase against Bangladesh, which ended in a seven-wicket victory for the Men in Blue at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

During the post-match press conference, Gill expressed his skepticism about Nasum's motive in bowling the wide. This wide ball came with more than eight overs remaining in the game and Kohli at 97 not out, when India needed just two runs to win. Shubman Gill said:

I don't know if he intentionally tried to bowl wide or he was just trying to keep it tight and then went away,

When India needed two runs in the 42nd over, umpire Richard Kettleborough came an integral part of the controversy. When Kohli faced a Nasum ball down the leg-side, he was only three runs away from the century. Surprisingly, it did not get a wide call even though Kohli decided to leave the delivery. Kohli hit a six off the third delivery of the over, which was the winning run for India. This unexpected development drew gasps from the stands as well as the Indian team's dressing room.

Gill loves the mindset of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

While analysing the impact of Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill emphasised his attempts to learn from watching how Kohli and Rohit play in the World Cup. India reached the target of 257 runs with 7 wickets in hand, thanks in large part to contributions from Rohit (48 runs) and Kohli (103 runs). The promising opener added:

To see them how they go about their business in World Cup and in big games is what I always try to learn from them. I think there's a fine line between sometimes being too aggressive or going in the shell, especially playing big games. But I think the way they play, the way their mindset is playing those big games in the World Cup is what I try to learn from them,

Now Team India will play New Zealand on October 22, 2023, in an interesting battle as both the teams are unbeaten in the competition so far and will look end each other’s winning streak.
