Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan made a stunning return to form in the T20 World Cup 2024, delivering a remarkable performance against the Netherlands on Thursday. The seasoned all-rounder scored an unbeaten 64 runs, helping his team set a formidable total of 159/5 against the ICC associate member. Bangladesh then successfully restricted the Netherlands to 134/8 in 20 overs, securing a 25-run victory. With this win, Bangladesh remains in contention for the tournament, needing a victory against Nepal in their next match to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

However, a controversy arose after the game concerning Shakib Al Hasan's response to recent criticism from Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag. Sehwag had criticized Shakib for his inconsistent performances while speaking about the all-rounder in an analysis show.

Did Shakib Al Hasan insult Virender Sehwag?

In a viral video, Shakib Al Hasan appeared to fail to recognize Virender Sehwag when asked about his comments, responding with "who?" This was initially misinterpreted as Shakib trolling Sehwag following his match-winning performance against the Netherlands. However, a full video has since emerged, clarifying that Shakib Al Hasan had not clearly heard Sehwag's name, which is why he asked "who?".

"A player never comes to answer any personal question. A player's job is to bat for the team if he's a batsman. If he is a bowler, his job is to bowl well. The wicket is a matter of luck. If he is a fielder, he should save each run and take all the catches that may come his way. Here, there's nothing to answer to anyone. I think it is important for a current player to contribute to his team as much as he can. When he can't contribute, then naturally there would be discussions and I don't think it is a bad thing," Shakib Al Hasan said in the post-match press conference.
