Impressed by their sublime show in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, former India World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir has picked the game between Afghanistan and England as the sweetest win of their campaign. In a discussion on Star Sports, Gambhir said the odds were against Afghanistan in the match against England, yet they came out as the better team on the day.

"England, because it was an excellent wicket, the small Kotla ground and England's powerful batting lineup, and despite that they defended that total and won so convincingly. We always knew that it was going to be a good contest against Pakistan because the match was in Chennai."

Gambhir predicts bright future for Afghanistan 

Gambhir further said that the win over England infused a lot of confidence in the Afghanistan camp, which was visible in their following matches. Moreover, he also shed light on the growth of Afghanistan as an emerging power in cricket and stated that the team will have a bright future.

"However, the way they defeated England in Delhi, I believe Afghanistan would have got a lot of confidence. You will see Afghanistan as a totally different team after this tournament. You will see them beating big teams going forward. They almost defeated Australia as well."
