With the growing feeling that Colombia would not co-host Copa America with Argentina, due to the massive social protests in the country, the President of the Chilean Football Association fueled the rumors by announcing that they could "host the competition if needed"

During an interview to TNT Sports Chile, Pablo Milad announced that if CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation, let them know up to two weeks in advance, they "would be ready to deliver Copa America"

He pointed out that neither him nor the Chilean Government received any official request from CONMEBOL, but admitted chatting with the regional governing body president offering to step in.

In Barranquilla, the city where the Copa America final would be held, the police fired tear gas that reached the Romelio Martinez stadium, during the Santa Fe-River Plate and America de Cali-Atlético Mineiro matches at Copa Libertadores.
