Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest if not the greatest player to win the Champions League. Having won 5 Champions League titles in his illustrious career and scored a whopping 140 goals in 183 appearances, Ronaldo's legacy in the Champions League is unmatched. 

Europe's governing football body UEFA has announced that they are set to honour Cristiano Ronaldo's legacy and immortalise it with a special award never given to any other player. 

UEFA to honour Cristiano Ronaldo 

UEFA on Tuesday announced that president Aleksander Ceferin is all set to award Cristiano Ronaldo a special award for being the all-time leading goal scorer in the history of Champions League. 

Cristiano Ronaldo will be awarded on Thursday, August 29th, when UEFA will hold the 36-team group stage draw. 

“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation. His extraordinary goal-scoring achievements in the competition seem destined to stand the test of time, posing a remarkable challenge for future generations to surpass. Hs. Over more than two decades, he has continuously evolved and refined his game while preserving a youthful passion for scoring and celebrating goals,” said President Aleksander Ceferin in his official statement. 

For the first time in history, UEFA will hand a special award to the player with the most goals ever scored in the Champions League. The award immortalises Ronaldo's achievement and also signals that it will take decades for anyone to break Ronaldo's record in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo's illustrious Champions League career

Cristiano Ronaldo was nicknamed as Mr Champions League for his performances in the UCL. Ronaldo represented Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League.

Ronaldo holds the record for most goals in the Champions League with 140 and is tied with Iker Casillas for the most appearances in Champions League history. He's won the Champions League 5 times and was the leading goalscorer in a UCL season on 7 different occasions.
