Spain and Germany are all set to lock horns with each other in the most anticipated Quarterfinal fixture of Euro 2024 at Stuttgart Arena, in Stuttgart.
Both Spain and Germany were one of the favourites to win the competition at the start and their performances throughout the tournament till now have only gone on to justify this even more. However, as Spain gears up to face the host nation of Germany in a mouthwatering Euro 2024 quarterfinal tie, they need to be afraid of an insane 90 year curse that has been haunting La Rojas in Euros and World Cups.
Despite all their excellent football in the tournament, Spain could be hard done by a weird curse that has haunted them in Euros and FIFA World Cup since the last 90 years.
In an insane stat, Spain have failed to beat the host nation of UEFA Euros and FIFA World Cup since 1934. The streak started when they controversially lost to Italy in the quarterfinal of World Cup in 1934.
Since then they've gone on to lose to France in Euro 1984 final, then again to South Korea in FIFA World Cup 2002 quarterfinal. Their recent defeat to a host nation was in FIFA World Cup 2018 when they lost to host nation of Russia on penalty shootouts.
Spain in the last 90 years have faced the host nation in a World Cup or Euro knockouts on 9 different occasions and have lost all of the nine games.
Given that Spain will face Germany in the quarterfinal of Euro 2024 the curse can once again strike and Spain can once again remain winless in the knockouts against a host nation.
Will the host nation curse haunt Spain again vs Germany or do they have enough firepower to exorcise their demons?
