Mbappe's Tricolor Mask Banned at Euro 2024 After Injury : Having injured his nose in his nation's opening game, Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to wear a tricolour France mask at Euro 2024.
Mbappe was unfortunate to sustain an injury on June 17 even though he contributed in the only goal in France's 1-0 triumph over Austria. A nasal fracture was the outcome of a late-game contact with Austria defender Kevin Danso's shoulder.
It's expected of Mbappe to wear protective gear on the pitch given the uncertainty surrounding his return. GOAL reports that during a recent training session, Real Madrid's new player wore a tricolour mask, symbolising France's colours.
When Les Bleus plays the Netherlands on Friday, June 21, Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to don a tricolour France mask.
Even though athletes don the tricolour mask during practice, official matches are prohibited by UEFA's equipment regulations from using it. According to UEFA equipment regulations, Article 42:
“Medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single color and must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified.”
This regulation means Mbappe will have to wear a less complicated mask. He received plain masks, which are pending French Football Federation certification, according to RMC Sport.
It's yet unknown if Mbappe will play in the upcoming match. Should he be unable to play, Olivier Giroud might replace him in the starting lineup.
