Reports suggesting Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. would be the Ballon d'Or winner have generated debate around the forthcoming announcement next month. Although some see this as a possible lowest point for the honour, others contend that Vinicius Jr.'s efforts merit the esteemed title, therefore generating discussion and expectation within the football fraternity.

Brazil legend Neymar backs Vinicius Jr to win the Ballon d’Or 2024

Neymar Jr. has said that he believes Vinicius Jr., a top player for Real Madrid and fellow Brazil international, should win the 2024 Ballon d'Or. October 28 is the esteemed award ceremony date set for Paris. The Real Madrid winger is competing for the award with Rodri, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe

Following an outstanding 2023–24 season with Real Madrid, Vinicius is seen as a major rival for the award. Last season, he was instrumental in helping the squad win the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Supercopa de España. He scored 24 goals and gave 11 assists over 39 games in all competitions.

Speaking with Brand Sports, Neymar chose Vinicius for the 2024 Ballon d'Or and explained his selection (as published by Marca):

“Of course I will be supporting him [Vinicius] to win the Ballon d'Or this year. For me there is no other better candidate to win. He's a guy who deserves it, because he's a fighter. He has suffered a lot throughout his life, but he has exceeded all expectations and criticism. He has become an idol for all of us.”

Vinicius Jr. had a fantastic season with Real Madrid, but his experience with the Brazilian national team at the Copa America 2024 was letdown. Eliminated in the quarterfinals, the Selecao lost 4-2 to Uruguay in a penalty shootout. Vinicius missed the game, although he scored two goals in three outings throughout the competition.
