Hollywood star and Austin FC owner McConaughy on why he bought into MLS

When the MLS season opens up this weekend it'll bring with it a touch of Hollywood.

Austin FC, part-owned by actor Matthew McConaughy, will make its league debut against Will Ferrell's LAFC.

McConaughy has been an owner of his home town club since its inception in 2019 and it'll become MLS' 27th team when it makes its debut on Saturday.

"We've already been great with the other common denominators (in Austin) that everyone loves which is music and food," said McConaughy. "We just needed the third one which is football."

Austin FC will be the first major league team to represent the Texan city and has already sold 15,000 season tickets.
