ISL 2019-20: Top Indian goalkeepers to watch out for this season

The ISL 2019-20 season is set to begin on October 20. Before the start of the league, we have compiled a list of top three Indian goalkeepers to watch out for.

Over the past few years, the Indian Super League (ISL) has given a host of Indian goalkeepers an opportunity to showcase their talent. Iconic Indian custodian Subrata Paul was one of the first standout performers in the ISL due to his commendable reflexes between posts for Indian football. However, in the last few seasons, we have seen a host of young Indian keepers impress when given the opportunity. Here is a list of three Indian goalkeepers who will be in the limelight over the course of ISL 2019-20.

Top three ISL goalkeepers

#3 Mohammad Nawaz

Mohammad Nawaz trained with the India U-17 squad that was playing the FIFA U-17 World Cup on home soil. The 19-year old youngster played a key role in FC Goa’s run to the ISL final last season. He was unlucky to suffer an extra-time goal at the hands of Rahul Bheke in the final but impressed during major part of the campaign. Sergio Lobera will hope that his teenage custodian can replicate the same display from last campaign this time out as well.

#2 Amrinder Singh

Punjab-born goalkeeper Amrinder Singh made his I-League debut with Pune Football Club in 2011. Since then, the 6 ft 1-inch goalkeeper has gone from strength-to-strength and has established himself as a second choice keeper with the Indian national team behind Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. Amrinder will captain Mumbai City FC in ISL 2019-20 as Jorge Costa & Co. aim for the ISL title. Will Amrinder do a David De Gea for Mumbai City FC?

#1 Gurpreet Singh Sandhu

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has long been the Indian national team's first-choice goalkeeper. His recent performance against Qatar in the FIFA World Cup qualifier was a testament to how important a player he is to the Blue Tigers. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu plays a similar role in the ISL for Bengaluru FC. Gurpreet, who is the first Indian footballer to play in the Europa League, will be key to Bengaluru's title chances over the next months.
