One of the greatest players from his generation and arguably the all-time greatest mid-fielder Andres Iniesta set to announce his retirement from football on October 8, 2024. The iconic midfielder was recently busy with stints in Japan and UAE. Iniesta spent the majority of his club career playing for FC Barcelona. He made 674 appearances for the club and departed from Camp Nou in 2018.

Andres Iniesta's Extraordinary Career

Much like Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Sergio Busquets- Teammates from the iconic Barcelona side-Andres Iniesta also emerged from the revered La Masia. His talent was recognised early thus he became an integral part of Pep Guardiola's invincible side. During his stay at the club, Barca won 9 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League trophies. Iniesta's brilliance was not only limited to the club as he made an exceptional impact playing for Spain as well. The magical mid-fielder garnered 131 appearances for La Roja, scoring 13 goals, which also includes the famous 2010 FIFA World Cup final goal that won Spain the World Cup against Netherlands.

Despite having the ability to change the narrative of the game with his sheer presence, Iniesta never won a Ballon d'Or in his career. However, his legacy will remain impervious. The veteran will bid adieu to the game on October 8, a date that matches his favourite shirt number. The development also ends the rumours of him reuniting with Messi, Busquets, and Luis Suarez at Inter Milan.

“Obviously I would like to return to Barca at some point in my life, because that's how I feel, but I don't know when or how to say now, nor does anyone else. We'll see how things go during this time and then we'll see where we are.”
