Leicester City continue fine form, defeat Arsenal 2-0

Jamie Vardy's party continued and James Maddison was a happy invitee as Leicester City defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening. The high-flying foxes are now second on the Premier League table and its prospects of finishing in the Champions League positions are increasing after every matchday.

The match started well, with both teams having a number of opportunities to score the opening goal. VAR was once again a part of the debate after Matteo Guendouzi tugged Caglar Soyuncu in the penalty box. However, Leicester were not awarded the penalty. As it has been since the past few weeks, Arsenal's defence was susceptible and allowed Leicester's wingers to send in crosses and be a threat the whole evening. Mesut Ozil's return to the team in the Premier League provided some control and command for the London side but it was not enough since he, along with Alexandre Lacazette and Hector Bellerin lacked a certain sharpness to help dominate the proceedings. The teams went into half time at nil-all.

Leicester dominate the second half

The game continued to be played in a free-flowing fashion after the break and Arsenal, through their captain Pierre Emrick Aubameyang had the ball at the back of the net. However, he was offside and it did not count. Leicester, were persistent throughout the game and coach Brendan Rodgers brought on Demarai Gray to push the lines harder and it proved right as the Foxes combined very well for Vardy to score the opening goal and break the deadlock. Maddison scored another to rock Arsenal's boat further. 

The loss leaves Arsenal rueing in their worst start to the season since 1982-83 and after the match, Emery was asked about the loss, and he said, "We can be disappointed with the result but with the attitude of the players, they did the game plan we prepared for. We started the first half by having chances by controlling the game, and at the start of the second half too, in our moment like we wanted. They created some chances too and when they scored the first goal, that's when we lost the opportunity to do something in that match."
