Ligue 1 Launches Special Initiative For International Women's Day, All Teams To Wear Special Kits In Fight Against Sexism

The French football league- Ligue 1 launched a special initiative on the occasion of International Women's Day 2025.

The International Women's Day is being celebrated on the 8th of March, 2025 as the day gives focus to important issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights along with violence against women. On the occasion of the International Women's Day 2025, the French football league launched a special initiative to fight the rampant sexism that still exists in the world today. This initiative by Ligue 1 was started on Friday during Monaco's match against Toulouse. This initiative by the league will go on till Sunday. 

Ligue 1's Special Gesture On International Women's Day 

On the occasion of the International Women's Day, Ligue 1 launched an initiative where all of the players will have the words ‘WO=MAN’ written instead of their names on the back of their shirts. This initiative is also being followed by the second division French league, Ligue 2. 

With the initiative extending a total of three days from Friday to Sunday, all of the teams playing in Ligue 1 will be seen sporting the words ‘WO=MAN’ written on the backs of their jerseys.

"This strong and symbolic gesture is part of an ambitious action plan launched by professional football to combat sexual and gender-based violence in stadiums. It aims to make stadiums a safe and respectful environment for everyone," said Ligue 1 in a press release on the same. 

Match Broadcasters Join In With Ligue 1 

The official match broadcasters for Ligue 1- DAZN and beIN Sports have also joined in along with Ligue 1 to be a part of the league's fight against sexism. During all Ligue 1 matches, the LED and sign boards all across the stadium and the pitch will also display the words "WO=MAN'.

The broadcasters will also be organizing special shows during halftime to lead the message forward.

The official match ball of Ligue 1 will also have the same written on it until Sunday.
