'Very Grateful': Manolo Marquez Honoured To Coach 'Second Home' India's Football Team
Manolo Marquez has been announced as the new head coach of Indian men's football team by AIFF. Here's what Marquez had to say about his new job.
Spanish coach Manolo Marquez has been appointed as the new head coach of Indian Football Team replacing the disgruntled sacked coach Igor Stimac. The AIFF announced Manolo Marquez' appointment as new coach on Saturday after an executive committee meeting chaired by President Kalyan Chaubey.
Manolo Marquez will manage both Blue Tigers and continue working as the FC goa head coach for 2024-25 season. As Manolo Marquez takes over, the Spanish coach felt grateful for the opportunity and made a promise to Indian fans in his first statement.
Manolo Marquez first statement since becoming India Coach
Manolo Marquez in his first statement since being announced as the head coach of Indian football team was very grateful for the opportunity and could not wait to start working.
Marquez considered coaching India a big honour and was thrilled to take over the role of head coach of a nation he calls his second home.
“It's an honour for me to be the National Football Team coach of India, a country I consider my second home. India and its people are something I feel attached to and I feel a part of since I first came to this beautiful country. I want to do my best to bring success to the millions of fans we have,” said Manolo Marquez in a statement published by AIFF on their website.
Manolo Marquez will not take over full time responsibility of the national team until 2025 as he will manage both FC Goa and Blue Tigers for 2024-25 season.
Manolo Marquez thanked FC Goa for allowing him the opportunity to manage the national team and looked forward to do great work with AIFF.
“I am very grateful to FC Goa for allowing us the flexibility to help the national team during the coming season while I am still the club’s head coach. I'm grateful to the AIFF for this opportunity and we hope to do great things for football,” added Manolo Marquez in his statement.
Manolo Marquez coaching Experience
The 55-year old Spanish Coach Manolo Marquez has a wealth of experience coaching teams. He has managed Spanish Club Las Palmas in La Liga.
Marquez started coaching in ISL in 2024 with Hyderabad FC and guided them to the ISL Cup crown. He took over FC Goa in 2023 and this will be the first time Marquez manages a National Team. +
