When it mattered most, the Brazil National Team failed once again at a major international tournament as they were knocked out from Copa America 2024 Quarterfinals at the hands of Uruguay on Penalties.
A lot of emphasis and expectation was laid at Real Madrid's star winger Vinicius Jr to lead Brazil's attack at Copa America. However, when push came to shove, Vincius Jr picked up two bookings in the group stage and was suspended for the Quarterfinal against Uruguay.
Vinicius Jr watched Brazil's elimination from the side lines and after reflecting on his actions and performance at Copa America, the two time Champions League winner has accepted full responsibility for his nation's exit.
Brazil certainly entered as the favourites to win Copa America and given how Vinicius Jr finished his season at Real Madrid with the Champions League trophy and as favourite to win the Ballon d'Or.
But Vini failed to translate his club form at Copa America. Upon reflecting at his campaign, Vinicius Jr took full responsibility of the defeat and apologised to the Brazilian fans.
“Copa America is over and it's time to reflect, know how to deal with defeat. The feeling of frustration kicks in again and again on the penalties. I failed to get two yellow cards. Watched elimination from outside again but this time it’s my fault. I apologise for that,” wrote Vinicius Jr in Portuguese on his social media.
Vinicius Jr further acknowledged that he will have to listen to some very harsh criticism but he promised to Brazil fans that this is only the beginning of his journey with the National team and is determined to take Brazil where it belongs - The Top.
“I know how to listen to the criticism and the harshest ones, believe me, I come from within. My national team journey, fortunately, is just beginning. Next to my teammates, I'll have the chance to relocate our national team to the place it deserves. We will be back on top! Love you and we are together,” concluded Vinicius Jr.

After Real Madrid won the Champions League, Vinicius Jr entered Copa America as the favourite to win Ballon d'Or in 2024. If Brazil would've gone all the way then Vinicius would've sealed the deal.
However, his disappointing Copa America and on the other hand Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham's clutch Euro 2024 campaign with England has meant that he is inching ahead of the Brazilian to win Ballon d'Or in 2024.
